Artist Statement

It is important that my work in animation and visual art is appealing and also memorable.  This is why when designing characters for animations, I make sure to give them distinct color schemes, personalities, and wildly different personalities.  People are always looking for something fresh, new, and memorable.  This is also why I  give my characters unique poses throughout the animations; to stick with the viewers more effectively.  Currently, I lean more towards a more light-hearted, cartoony style over a realistic style.  This style is used to further allow natural exaggeration of the characters, while also making it easier to stand out from each other.  2D animation is my dimension of choice.  While it may be harder to execute compared to 3D animation, it allows for more direct control over how everything in a scene moves.

Artist Bio

Samuel Young, III is a senior from Fort Washington, MD and is currently seeking a Bachelor of Science in Visual Arts and Communication with a concentration in Animation and Motion Graphics at Bowie State University.  Currently, he creates designs such as logos and promotional material for the Nonprofit Navigators of Prince George’s County.  As a student he has dedicated himself to learning more about the visual and media arts and the many paths he could take through this field.  Ever since the start of his college career, Samuel has loved to create various projects through Adobe programs such as Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, and Animate.  While he may be focused in Animation and Motion Graphics, Samuel has gained an affinity for branding and marketing through his work.  No matter what he is working on, Samuel knows how to sell not only his work, but himself as well.  This is what led Samuel to enjoy making logos and posters the most out of his works.  He sees himself working with more artists and organizations that need help with their own visual branding in the future, much like the Nonprofit Navigators.
